Odegaard assists as Norway reach last 16 | International | News

Martin Odegaard provided an assist for the opening goal of the game, scored by Antonio Nusa in Norway’s 2-1 win over Ivory Coast on Tuesday.

Amad Diallo pulled one back in the 74th minute, but Erling Haaland restored Norway’s lead late on to send Norway through to the FIFA World Cup round of 16.

Our captain was once again leading the celebrations post-match, banging a drum as thousands of Norwegians rowed in unison!

He will now be preparing to come up against his teammates Gabriel Magalhães and Gabriel Martinelli when Norway face Brazil at 9pm UK time on Sunday, July 5.

“It is difficult to put into words, really,” Odegaard said. “A fantastic feeling. Everything we have been through, and seeing the steps we have taken, what we do on the pitch against a very, very good team, going through in the World Cup, playing a good game, celebrating with our fans, the whole country behind us. It doesn’t get much better than that.

“It is crazy to see all the pictures from Norway and all the support, the engagement and the celebration. We have dreamed of days like this since we were very small. We have seen pictures from when Norway beat Brazil and heard stories about it, and now we are writing our own history.

“Brazil have a really good team, a lot of good players. It is going to be a tough, tough test for us. I know a few of them from Arsenal, top players, and I’m looking forward to seeing them. Hopefully we can give them a good fight.”

William Saliba is also through to the next round with France (against Paraguay at 10pm on Saturday) after they put three past Sweden without reply, meaning Viktor Gyokeres’ tournament has come to an end.

Two goals from Kylian Mbappe and one from Bradley Barcola saw the French through in style, with our Wilo helping the nation to a clean sheet by winning 100% of his aerial duels.

There will also be no more World Cup football for Piero Hincapie as Ecuador were beaten 2-0 by Mexico overnight. Our defender was shown a late red card for covering his mouth following an altercation.
