Leandro Trossard played the full 90 minutes as Belgium opened their World Cup campaign with a 1-1 draw against Egypt in Seattle.
The Red Devils exited the competition at the group stage in 2022 and things started badly for Leo’s side, as Emam Ashour drilled home the opener for the African outfit.
Our number 19 was a bright spark throughout the game, with Belgium finding their equaliser on 66 minutes when Mohamed Hany put through his own net.
Leo almost created the winner for Belgium, flicking the ball beautifully into the path of Thomas Meunier, but he could only fire straight at Mustafa Shobeir in the Egypt net.
Belgium face Iran in Los Angeles in their second group game on Sunday at 8pm. All sides in Group G are locked on a point each after Iran and New Zealand played out a 2-2 draw.
SPAIN STUNNED BY BLUE SHARKS
Earlier in the day, there was a huge upset as Spain failed to beat World Cup debutants, Cabo Verde.
La Roja, who won the Euros in 2024, dominated the first half, hitting the woodwork from close range and forcing 40-year-old goalkeeper Vozinha into a string of fine saves.
In a bid to try and get all three points, Luis de la Fuente sent on Mikel Merino on 71 minutes. But our midfielder couldn’t get Spain over the line as the 2010 World Cup winners had to settle for a point.
David Raya and Martin Zubimendi were unused subs for the draw in Atlanta.
Spain are back in Atlanta for their second group game against Saudi Arabia, on Sunday at 5pm UK time. The Saudis played out a 1-1 draw with Uruguay, meaning all four sides are on a point after one game.

WHO IS PLAYING TODAY?
Two more Gunners are in action on day six of this World Cup.
First up, William Saliba’s France take on Senegal at 8pm in New Jersey in a repeat of the opening fixture of the 2002 World Cup.
Then, at 11pm, Martin Odegaard’s Norway face Iraq in Boston in their first World Cup match since 1998. Martin is warming up nicely for the tournament, netting in a friendly against Morocco in New Jersey.
