“That might be an issue”

France legend Thierry Henry believes Arsenal do not create enough chances in their matches. He wants Mikel Arteta’s men to do more on the pitch, saying it would hurt them in the upcoming matches.

Speaking on CBS Sports after the 1-0 win at Sporting CP, Henry pointed out that Arsenal rely too much on set pieces, as fans have pointed out. He added that they need to do more from open play, and said:

“We know their biggest strength already, they are strong as a team and very solid. For me they are the most solid team in the Champions League. We also know about the set-pieces – people are crying about that but it’s a part of the game and a big advantage for Arsenal because they’re pretty good at it. But if the defence doesn’t work I don’t think we are creating enough at times to be able to hurt teams and that might be an issue.”

Henry added that the late win was definitely a better result than a goalless draw, but was still critical about their creativity on the pitch. He is not confident about the home game next week and added:

“It’s better than coming back with a 0-0 obviously! There wasn’t much in the game or a lot of creativity but they did what they had to do. They won away from home, let’s see what happens at the Emirates.” (via Metro)

Kai Havertz scored in injury time after coming off the bench in the match at Sporting CP. The Gunners had more chances in the game, but failed to come away with a bigger lead from the first leg.

Mikel Arteta on Arsenal’s approach in the game

Mikel Arteta claimed after the match that he was happy with the approach against Sporting CP. The Arsenal manager highlighted that the Portuguese side are a tough opponent and could have hurt them on the counter if they had attacked more and said:

“We know especially how they start the first half here, the atmosphere that they create as a team, especially when they go ahead, extremely dangerous because they are so good in transition. The moment they turn you and they are running, those second actions, they are a team that creates big problems and when you are chasing the game it’s even harder.” (via club website)
