Brazil striker Gabriel Jesus has named Gabriel Martinelli as the most talented player at Arsenal. He believes that the winger is better than Declan Rice and Gabriel Magalhães.
Speaking to Romario TVJesus recalled being impressed by Martinelli in 2019, when they were training together for the Brazilian national team. He claimed that the winger does everything well in training and is a player who can decide the match result on his own and said:
Thanks for the submission!
“I think I’ll go with Martinelli, because I saw him, funny enough, during the 2019 Copa America preparation. I think it was 2019, the national team always calls some youth players from certain clubs to train with us, right? There was a good young left winger. I said, ‘Wow, what a good kid’.”
“Then at the start of the season here, I saw Martinelli at Arsenal, and I said, ‘I’ve seen this kid before’, and it was him. So, from early on, I was already watching him play at Ituano. Some of the things he does in daily life, in training, are different. Usually in the game it’s about what decides the match, but you have to see the player in training too, the details, the little things.”
Gabriel Jesus has played 92 matches with Gabriel Martinelli for club and country. The two have combined for just four goals, three of which were scored by the Arsenal winger.
Gabriel Jesus wants to stay at Arsenal beyond next summer
Gabriel Jesus will be entering the final year of his contract at Arsenal this summer and the Brazilian striker has admitted that he wants to stay. He said that the main aim is to get back to full fitness and earn the new deal at the club as he wants to win silverware at the Emirates. He told the meida in January:
“My wish is to stay at Arsenal. And then I have a contract as well. Obviously if you ask me, like you did already, I want to extend my contract. I want to stay and I want to win trophies with Arsenal because I came here with a purpose. Then that’s it. But obviously the reality is different. Sometimes it can go (another) way. But my focus is to stay healthy and then win trophies with Arsenal.” (via ESPN)
Gabriel Jesus faces competition from Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz for his position at Arsenal, while Mikel Merino has also been used as a striker.
