An often-overlooked position, we’d like to give them their flowers today.

We’ve looked at partnerships from clubs such as ChelseaArsenal and Manchester City in this list – but who are they? Let’s have a look.

Daniel Munoz & Tyrick Mitchell

<smartframe-embed customer-id="0fab81ce12e48a0794275e1d82449fb1" image-id="1060723332" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 100%;"/>

Crystal Palace’s season may have fallen off a clif towards the end of the campaign, but Daniel Munoz and Tyrick Mitchell have remained solid throughout.

While neither of them are among the best defenders in the world, they’re both excellent going forward and always put forth an herculean shift for the Eagles.

Put together, Mitchell and Munoz have scored four Premier League goals this season, notching up a trio of assists along the way.

Matheus Nunes & Nico O’Reilly

<smartframe-embed customer-id="0fab81ce12e48a0794275e1d82449fb1" image-id="0841651177" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 100%;"/>

Matheus Nunes’ transformation into a right-back has been Pep Guardiola’s greatest success story in 2025/26 – likewise, the Spaniard also deserves credit for giving Nico O’Reilly a chance to strut his stuff.

Both of them are incredibly technically adept – Nunes is a natural central midfielder, while O’Reilly is also comfortable playing in the middle of the park.

However, their best performances have some whilst playing at right-back and left-back, respectively. With five goals and nine assists between them this season, we’re excited to see what the future holds for this burgeoning relationship.

Jurrien Timber & Riccardo Calafiori

<smartframe-embed customer-id="0fab81ce12e48a0794275e1d82449fb1" image-id="1066079663" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 100%;"/>

One of the more defensive-minded partnerships in our list, Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori are exactly what you’d expect from fullbacks in a Mikel Arteta team.

Naturally, both Timber and Calafiori are centre-backs, but they have been repurposed into physical full-backs who aren’t afraid to get forward.

With each man possessing a surprising amount of technical ability, it’s very difficult for wingers to drive beyond them – especially with balls over the top.

Tino Livramento & Lewis Hall

<smartframe-embed customer-id="0fab81ce12e48a0794275e1d82449fb1" image-id="1074241609" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 100%;"/>

Newcastle United have had an eclectic season with no semblance of consistency, but Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall have both been fantastic since the season’s dawn (at least, when they’re both fit to play).

On top of this, they’re both very young. Livramento is 23, while Hall is 21 – if Newcastle can keep hold of them both, they won’t need to worry about signing a top-class full-back for another ten years.

Recently, Hall put forth a magical display when he kept Lamine Yamal quiet against Barcelona in the Champions League (despite Yamal bagging a late penalty) – they’re known as attacking full-backs, but they’re more than capable at the other end of the pitch.

Reece James & Marc Cucurella

<smartframe-embed customer-id="0fab81ce12e48a0794275e1d82449fb1" image-id="1062511715" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 100%;"/>

Reece James and Marc Cucurella are among the best full-backs in the world right now. The two of them are incredibly well-rounded – they’re both solid defenders who possess plenty of attacking prowess.

James, after suffering years of injury issues, is now finally getting a chance to show the world what he can do. Meanwhile, Cucurella is often the ire of opposing fans, given his roughhouse tactics and penchant for bending the rules, but this is merely a reflection of his competitive nature.

In total, Cucurella and James have scored a combined total of three Premier League goals for Chelsea this season, including eight assists. We’ll likely see them both at the 2026 World Cup – can they guide their respective nations to glory?

As football progresses, more and more is being asked of full-backs – especially so in the Premier League.
