Article continues under the video<\/center> <\/p>\n The 19-year-old is in the midst of his first season of elite European football. Last summer, Kofane joined the 2024 Bundesliga champions for \u20ac5.3 million from Spanish second-tier side Albacete.<\/p>\n
He had only left his native Cameroon – where he ironically played for AS Nylon, a club that has copied Bayer Leverkusen’s badge – in late 2024, so his move to the German top flight came remarkably early in his development.<\/p>\n
However, with eight goals in 20 appearances for Albacete, Leverkusen had seen enough to be convinced that Kofane could perform at the highest level. They were correct.<\/p>\n
This season, Kofane has netted seven goals and provided eight assists for the Werkself, while also becoming a senior international for Cameroon and playing at the African Cup of Nations. His exploits have now attracted the attention of Arsenal.<\/p>\n
Arsenal want Kofane <\/h2>\n
According to Sky Germany<\/b><\/a><\/i>the Gunners are closely following the teenager’s progress, particularly after he impressed against them across two legs in the Champions League.<\/p>\n
While he didn’t find the back of the net – his only Champions League goal came against PSV in October – he caused William Saliba some problems with his physicality.<\/p>\n

\u00a9 IMAGO – Christian Kofane<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n His agent Eric Depolo has confirmed the interest from the Gunners and various other clubs. Speaking to Daily Arsenal<\/b><\/a><\/i>he said: “Yes, Arsenal\u2019s interest is genuine. The manager likes him very much.<\/p>\n
“There is contact between me and Arsenal. But their focus right now is to win the league – from there, everything will start moving. He is a \u20ac100m player. With Kofane, Arsenal will have a top striker for the next 10 years.”<\/p>\n
On the face of it, his numbers do not immediately catch the eye. Seven goals are a fairly ordinary return for a striker, but context matters. Not only is Kofane still a rookie, but he also competes with veteran forward Patrik Schick, one of the Bundesliga’s best finishers, for a spot.<\/p>\n
Arsenal recognise this and believe that the sky is the limit for Kofane. Leverkusen share this sentiment, and they have accordingly slapped a whopping price tag of around \u20ac60m-\u20ac70m on the youngster’s head.<\/p>\n
Why is Kofane in demand? <\/h2>\n
So, if Kofane’s numbers aren’t special, what makes him such an interesting prospect? Well, he is kind of the full package. He is reasonably quick for a 6ft 2in player, he knows how to use his body to his advantage and he is good on the ball.<\/p>\n
When he gets a sight of goal, he doesn’t mess about. He pulls the trigger. This can be an advantage because it can catch goalkeepers off guard, but it can also be seen as a shortcoming because it means that he will sometimes take shots from unfavourable angles.<\/p>\n

“Right now, he is the best U21 striker in Europe and the most complete one,” according to Depolo. “He has speed, technique, defends very well and is strong in the air. It is very difficult to find all these attributes in one striker.”<\/p>\n
Still, there is plenty of room for improvement, and Kofane knows it. He has a good head on his shoulders and is willing to learn and get better.<\/p>\n
Speaking ahead of the first leg against Arsenal, coach Kasper Hjulmand praised the teenager for his desire to absorb criticism.<\/p>\n
“For me, it’s simply impressive that Kofi came to Europe at the end of 2024 and moved here in the summer of 2025 – and how he has developed since then, the way he works, how he adapts and learns,” Hjulmand said.<\/p>\n
“A few weeks ago, I criticised him a bit in training, and then the next day he came to me and said: ‘Please, keep it up. I want more criticism, I want to learn.’<\/p>\n
“I always tell players: ‘Stay true to yourself in this crazy world.’ Sometimes you might lose touch with reality. But if you stay true to yourself, everything will be alright. I know Chris will stay on this path, with this personality – and then he will certainly develop further.”<\/p>\n
Kofane is in an ideal environment to learn. Not only can he take cues from the experienced Schick, who “offers advice in everyday life and on the pitch,” but his mentor is none other than legendary former striker Samuel Eto’o.<\/p>\n
The 19-year-old came through the former Chelsea star’s academy in Douala. “He is my idol, he enabled me to think big,” Kofane said of the president of Cameroon’s FA last month. He scored twice in four appearances at AFCON under the watchful gaze of his role model.<\/p>\n

According to analytics firm SciSports, the striker is one of the most improved players in the Bundesliga this term.<\/p>\n
SciSports analyses hundreds of in-game data points to calculate a SciSkill rating. Over the past six months, Kofane’s SciSkill has increased by a whopping 22 points. Only Lennart Karl, Yan Diomande, Younes Ebnoutalib and Noahkai Banks have seen a bigger leap in the Bundesliga.<\/p>\n
Looking ahead to the future, SciSports believes that Kofane can reach a similar level to Viktor Gyokeres if he fulfils his potential. Right now, of course, he remains some way short of the Gunners’ current offensive options in terms of ability.<\/p>\n
However, it is believed that Kofane can develop into a truly elite forward over time. Signing him this summer would be a bet on the future rather than an immediate upgrade on Gyokeres, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.<\/p>\n
